January 2, 2012 Chinese New Year to be Observed January 21-28 Tustin, CA - China and many parts of Asia will celebrate the Year of the Dragon this month, as the traditional Chinese New Year is observed around the world. The holiday is observed in China, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Indonesia and many other countries. Observed dates for 2012 may vary slightly from one locale to another, but are generally observed in China on the following dates: • Hong Kong: January 21-26 • Mainland China: January 22-28 Time-critical shipments should be made well in advance of this holiday, as both air and ocean space can become very tight in the 1-2 weeks leading up to this holiday. In addition, large backlogs of freight frequently exist immediately after the holiday, due to the closure of many companies, as well as local customs offices closures during the celebration. December 28, 2011 Diesel Fuel Prices Decrease as Forecast Remains Stable for 2012 Washington, DC - The U.S. Department of Energy reported that the national average price for a gallon of ultra-low sulfur diesel fuel dropped to $3.791 a gallon this week, continuing a five-week slide. Prices dropped 3.7 cents from the prior week and have dropped more than 20 cents per gallon in the past month, but remain nearly 50 cents a gallon higher then a year ago. In its Short-term Energy Outlook released earlier this month, the EIA said that while it expects refiners' costs for crude oil to increase slightly in 2012 from the current level, diesel prices at the pump should remain stable in a narrow range close to $3.85 per gallon for the coming year. Historically, diesel averaged $2.99 per gallon in 2010, and $2.46 in 2009 Source: U.S. Department of Energy, Energy Information Adminsitration (EIA). |
